How to Help Spread the LTPCA Message

When Let Them Play CA was first started, we created a private Facebook Group where parents, athletes and coaches could share information pertaining to the goal of getting our student athletes back on the field / court / pool / course / etc.  As word began to spread, that group grew quickly.

We had some growing pains, that we're trying to correct, so that we stay on point with our mission.  Which is to LET THEM PLAY!

We've made some changes in order to improve the way we spread our message.

  • We created this blog, which serves as a landing spot for our web URL www.playca.org.  The idea here is to bring our mission statement to the forefront, so new people can immediately understand what we're trying to accomplish.  This blog has more of that crucial information up front for people to see.
  • We've added a link on this blog to our Public Facebook Page which is located at www.facebook.com/LetThemPlayCA  The purpose of this page is to present relevant information that will a) help us educate people on our mission, b) help us to convey key information for the families that help support our cause and c) help us convince the decision makers of our state to allow our student athletes play the sports they love.
  • We've added a link on this blog to our Private Facebook Group which is located at www.facebook.com/groups/letthemplayca  The purpose of this group has evolved.  We now use this as a forum for parents, athletes and coaches to share information pertaining to our mission.
  • We've added a link on this blog to our Twitter account which is located at twitter.com/letthemplayca1  The purpose of this account is to share relevant information related to our mission on the Twitter platform.

As a grass roots organization, our strength lies in our numbers. We have grown to more than 59 thousand members in a matter of weeks. The private Facebook Group has been a vital tool in the sharing of information, but we need to leverage the power of social media.  We want to make sure that we are leveraging the power of our numbers by asking you to do a few simple things:

1) Direct eyeballs to www.playca.org

If you are printing anything that is intended to spread our mission, please include the full internet URL www.playca.org  Some internet browsers trip on the absence of the "www", so please include it in your banners, posters, t-shirts, deals, etc.  Many people have used the hashtag "#LetThemPlayCA" in their marketing.  The issue with that is not everyone knows how to use a hashtag (no offense to the cool grandparents who do!).  Use the internet URL www.playca.org to avoid confusion.

2) Sign up to the public Facebook page

If you haven't already done so, please sign up AND like our public Facebook Group at www.facebook.com/LetThemPlayCA The "Sign Up" and "Like" buttons are located near the top of this page (see the red arrows in the image below):

3) Share relevant stories on Facebook

Once you have signed up for this page, you will see post updates in your Facebook feed.  You can help spread these posts to your personal social network by sharing these posts.  To do that, click on the "Share" button at the bottom of the post, then click on the "Share now (Public)" option that appears in the drop down that appears (see the red arrows in the image below):

Keep in mind that you can only share Facebook posts from LTPCA's Public Facebook page.  Sharing of content is not permitted in private Facebook Groups.

4) Share relevant info with the private Facebook group

Continue to use the Private Facebook Group at www.facebook.com/groups/letthemplayca to share information with the LTPCA community.  This tool has been especially powerful when rallies are being scheduled.  That tool has been instrumental in getting that word out.

5) Follow LTPCA on Twitter, then like and retweet relevant stories

Join the Twitter if you don't already have an account.  We know that there are some who opposed to the use of Twitter for various reasons, but we ask that you put those issues on the shelf for a moment and help us spread our mission.  You can create a "burner" account, which is an account that you intended to abandon.  Create a burner Twitter account just to help spread the word.

Once you have a Twitter account, be sure to follow the LetThemPlayCA Twitter account by navigating to the LTPCA TWiiter page at twitter.com/letthemplayca1 and then click on the "Follow" button on this page (see the red arrow in the image below):

As you see important posts from LTPCA on Twitter, "Like" those posts by clicking on the heart image below the post (see the red arrow in the image below):

You can also "retweet" (i.e. share these posts with those people who follow your Twitter account) by first clicking on the two opposing arrows icon (see the red arrow in the image below):

Then clicking on the "Retweet" option in the drop down that appears (see the red arrow in the image below):

If you choose the "Quote Tweet" option in this drop down, it will retweet the post along with a comment that you can leave in addition to the post.
